SMP Update Phase I

Phase I of the Shoreline Master Program, which consists of the inventory, analysis, and environment designations, is moving forward to the City Council for a hearing, for consideration of adoption by resolution. The hearing was held on July 16, 2007 at 6:00 p.m. in the Council Chambers, Lower Level of City Hall, 808 W. Spokane Falls Boulevard. The resolution established a formal recognition that the Phase I body of work is complete and will be used as a base upon which to develop the remainder of the Shoreline Master Program.  The entire SMP document is scheduled for completion in the summer of 2008, after which it will be proposed for adoption by ordinance and if passed, will go into effect.

The inventory and analysis work was done by the City's consultant, URS Corporation, and consists of a detailed scientific look at our shorelines. This work includes a look at current shoreline use, the ecological function of the shorelines, and restoration opportunities, among many other items.  The Environmental Designations are based upon the information from the inventory and analysis and the State Guidelines, and were created by staff, URS Corporation, and then reviewed by the SMP Policy Committee.

Phase I consists of the following:

    Inventory and Analysis Documents

Environment Designation Policies, Maps, Resolution, and Other Documents
