SMP Roundtable Discussions

To gain insight into the issues that concern those in our community with a vested stake in the future of the Spokane River and Latah Creek, the City of Spokane Planning Services Department planned a series of Stakeholder Roundtable Discussions. We invited five groups of 15-20 stakeholders each to participate in these discussions.  Each stakeholder group will meet three times over the next year.

The first stakeholder meetings were designed to be mostly informational in nature to bring the participants up to date on the process.  In addition, participants began to identify issues and opportunities for restoration, preservation, economic development, recreation, shoreline access, and other shoreline-related activities.

The first group met on April 12, 2006, at the West Central Community Center, and the remaining four groups had a combined first meeting on May 9, 2006 at Shadle Park High School.

The City will use the input from these meetings to develop environmental designations along the Spokane River and Latah Creek shorelines, along with shoreline goals, policies, and regulations.
