NATIVE Project/Health Building design goal was to produce a culturally identifying building that would serve the Native and Non-Native Community in Spokane. The much needed medical and community facility was completed in June 2007.

The design incorporated many architectural details. The exterior of the building embraces bold wood design that is representative of growing trees. Exterior colors were chosen to meld the building into its surroundings. The interior architecture encompasses many special features that are distinctive of Native American culture. In the Community Great room many Native American paintings are displayed reminiscent of how "paintings" were used to document history of the Native Americans. The special "spot" lighting and sky light provide a feeling of being outdoors. The expansive round architecture used on the open second floor "balcony" allows one to enjoy the great room's vastness.

The building has a multi-function purpose. First, to provide a beautiful and comfortable space for patience/visitors to take care of medical needs or community gatherings; and the second, is to ensure the administrators, doctors, dentist, treatment staff, and support staff has a work environment that makes them feel at home.

During the pre-design/conceptual stage the staff had opportunity to voice their concerns and what purpose the new facility should ensure:
