cottage housing
Background
City of Spokane
adopted a cottage housing ordinance in 2006 with the intent to support
diversity of housing, increase variety of housing types for
smaller households and provide the opportunity for small, detached
single-family dwelling units within existing neighborhoods. Due to
developer/property owner suggestions for improvements combined with the
knowledge that no cottage housing projects have been built and only two
applications have been filed, it seemed apparent changes were needed.
The Infill Housing Task Force was formed in December of 2008 to review
existing cottage and single family regulations to determine the type of
amendments that would be needed in order to encourage/enable
development.
